Who is this qualification for?

The Award In Responsible Alcohol Retailing is designed for anyone who works on licensed retail premises and involved with the sale of alcohol including;

  • bar staff
  • waiters/waitresses
  • supermarket cashiers
  • licensed shop cashiers

in any licensed premise including;

  • pubs
  • hotels
  • licensed shops
  • convenience stores
  • entertainment venues
  • leisure parks
  • bars

This qualification provides essential knowledge and understanding of the responsibilities of alcohol retailers authorised by a personal license holder to sell alcohol.It will enable those who complete the qualification to act within the law and to support the designated premises supervisor to retail alcohol responsibly on their licensed premises.

What are the qualifications key subject areas?
  • the nature of alcohol and the effect that it has on the human body
  • the main issues in the Licensing Act 2003 as they relate to alcohol
    retailers and servers
  • Licensing law in relation to the protection of children from harm
  • the social responsibilities relating to the retail sale of alchohol
  • how to recognise drunkenness,and an individuals duty not to serve
    drunk customers
  • appropriate strategies that can be adopted to prevent or eliminate
    alcohol-related crime and conflict and the importance of personal
    safety
How is the qualification delivered?

The Award in Responsible Alcohol Retailing is a one day course which includes a short 25 question multiple-choice exam.Training is supported by the BIIAB ARAR handbook.This handbook is written in an easy-to follow format and contains all the information needed to pass the exam.The BIIAB ARAR is accredited by the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority.

Candidates can receive training on site or attend a course at a registered training venue.

Award in Customer and Drinks Service(Licensed Hospitality) is a one day course which includes a short multiple choice exam.Candidates can receive training on-site or attend a registered training centre.The training is supported by an easy-to -follow workbook and contains all the information required to pass the exam. Award in Customer Service and Drinks Service (Licensed Hospitality) is accredited by the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority.

BIIAB Level 2 National Certificate for Personal Licence Holders

Level 2 National Certificate for Personal Licence Holders

Who is this qualification for?

Licensing law in England and Wales states that anyone who authorises the sale of alcohol to the public must hold a personal licence.To obtain a personal licence an application is made to the licensing authority who require a government approved licensing qualification such as the BIIAB NCPLH.

What are the qualifications key subject areas?

The BIIAB NCPLH covers the syllabus set by the government to enable candidates to understand the law in relation to :

  • the roles,responsibilities and functions of the licensing authorities within the framework of the licensing objectives
  • the application process for a personal licence
  • the role and the legal responsibilities of the personal licence holder,and the penalties relating to failure to comply with the law
  • the premises licence
  • the content and purpose of the operating schedules
  • the role and duties of the designated premises supervisor
  • unauthorised and temporary licensable activities
  • rights of entry to licensed premises
  • police powers with regard to suspension and closure of licensed premises
  • the specific prohibitions for the sale of alcohol
  • the strengths of alcoholic drinks,and the effects of the alcohol on the body
  • the protection of children from harm
  • the responsible sale of alcohol

The National Certificate for Personal Licence Holders is a one day course which includes a short 40 question multiple-choice exam.Training is supported by the BIIAB NCPLH handbook.This handbook is written in an easy-to follow format and contains all the information needed to pass the exam.The BIIAB NCPLH is accredited by the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority.

BIIAB Level 2 National Certificate for Designated Premises Supervisors

Level 2 National Certificate for Designated Premise Supervisors

Who is this qualification for?

The BIIAB NCDPS is a nationally recognised qualification for both existing Designated premise Supervisors,and those who may be required to take up this post in the future,working in any type of licensed premise:

  • pubs and bars
  • hotels and restaurants
  • sports and social clubs
  • off-licences,supermarkets and convenience stores

Candidates should have achieved the BIIAB Level 2 National Certificate for Personal Licence Holders or have equivalent knowledge.

This qualification was developed in conjunction with the local government,police,and the industry,to support the new post of the Designated Premise Supervisor created by the Licensing Act 2003.

  • the roles and responsibilities of the designated premises supervisor
  • the licensable activities carried out in the licensed premise
  • the requirements of the legislation and best practice to support the four
    licensing objectives
  • how to conduct a risk assessment,and how it is used to underpin the
    operating scedule
  • the relationship between the operating schedule and management controls
How is the qualification delivered ?

The National Certificate for Designated Supervisors is a one day course which includes a short multiple-choice exam.Training is supported by the BIIAB handbook.This handbook is written in an easy-to-follow format and contains all the information to pass the exam.The qualification is also supported by a CDROM which enables the user to review existing policies in licensed premises,suggests ways in which such policies can support the four licensing objectives,and produces a record of these policies which can be saved and printed.The BIIAB NCDPS is accredited by the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority
